Overview
AR Travel & Heritage Guide turns any heritage site into a living, personalised experience. A traveller opens the interactive map, finds a monument near them, and the guide narrates its story — not a generic script, but a narration tuned to their traveller type (family, history buff, pilgrim, architect or casual) and their chosen language. On-site, GPS unlocks an AR reconstruction they can place in the world; off-site, they can preview the same 3D model from anywhere. An offline audio guide keeps working where the signal doesn't, and a hidden-gems layer surfaces the lesser-known spots around each site.
The platform serves two audiences. Travellers explore for free, upgrade to premium for unlimited stories, and never need an account to start. Tourism boards license a console to publish their own monuments, historical context, audio guides and nearby spots — and watch how travellers engage with them.
Heritage narration and AR reconstructions are AI-generated interpretations drawn from widely-known history. They are general travel guidance — opening hours, entry fees and access should always be verified locally.
The four AI experiences
1. Heritage narration
Every monument gets a story generated for the traveller in front of it. Choose a traveller type and a language, and the guide adapts tone, depth and detail — a family hears an engaging tale, a history buff gets dynasties and dates, a pilgrim hears the sacred significance, an architect hears the structure and craft. Each narration also returns highlights, "did you know" facts, the best time to visit and a rough visit duration. Stories are cached per monument / language / traveller type so repeat views are instant.
2. GPS-triggered AR reconstructions
On-site, the app checks the traveller's GPS against the monument's coordinates. Standing there, they're invited to place a 3D reconstruction exactly where the monument stands, using the phone's native AR (Android Scene Viewer / iOS AR Quick Look via WebXR). Away from the site, the same model is available in a preview-anywhere mode. A non-AR 3D viewer is always available as a fallback, so no device is left out.
3. Offline audio guides
Each monument can carry narrated audio guides in multiple languages, with a read-along transcript. Travellers download a guide over wifi before they arrive, and it plays on-site with no signal or data. Where a recorded track isn't available, the browser's speech synthesis reads the transcript aloud in the chosen language as a fallback.
4. Hidden gems nearby
Around every monument (or in any city) the guide surfaces lesser-known spots — viewpoints, markets, local food, craft workshops. It blends spots seeded by the tourism board with AI suggestions tuned to the traveller's interests, and for each gem explains what it is, why it's worth a stop, roughly how far it is and who it suits best.
Plus: the AI trip planner
Beyond a single site, travellers can generate a day-by-day heritage itinerary for a city or area — choosing the number of days, their traveller type and language — with suggested stops, rough timings and short notes. Timings are a guide; opening hours and entry are to be verified locally.
How it works
Open the map, browse monuments or tap "Near me" to find heritage around you — no account needed.
Open a monument, pick your traveller type and language, and hear its story. Ask follow-up questions about its history.
Launch the AR viewer. On-site, place the reconstruction in the world; anywhere else, preview it in 3D.
Grab an offline audio guide, uncover hidden gems nearby, and plan a heritage itinerary for the days you have.

Privacy & data
Location stays on the device. GPS is used in the browser to check whether a traveller is near a monument and to power "Near me". Coordinates are used for that check and are not required to browse.
Anonymous by default. Travellers can explore without an account. Visit logs record the monument viewed; the user field is left empty for anonymous visitors.
Offline content is local. Downloaded audio guides and transcripts are stored in the browser for on-site use.
Accounts & deletion. Registered travellers can delete their account from within the app and via a public deletion request page. Board accounts are managed by the tourism body.
Payments. Premium and board payments are processed by the payment gateway; card details are never stored by the app.
Data model
Core tables (prefix ATG_). Every table carries soft-delete and audit columns.
| Table | Holds |
|---|---|
ATG_Monuments | The heritage sites: name, location, category, coordinates, short description, historical context, hero image; owned by a board org. |
ATG_MonumentContent | Cached AI narration per monument / language / traveller type (title + narration JSON). |
ATG_ARModels | 3D / AR models (glb / usdz) for a monument, with preview image, caption and sort order. |
ATG_AudioGuides | Narrated audio guides per language: transcript, audio URL, duration, downloadable flag. |
ATG_NearbySpots | Nearby spots and hidden gems for a monument: type, why-visit, approximate distance. |
ATG_VisitLogs | A visit record per monument view (user field empty for anonymous visitors). |
ATG_Subscriptions | Premium (tourist) and board subscriptions: plan, amount, dates, payment status. |
ATG_Users | Registered traveller accounts, with premium status and expiry. |
Identity uses the shared account kit scoped to product ATG. A tourism board is a kit organisation; board staff manage that org's monuments. Traveller visit and subscription rows are scoped to the kit user id, or left anonymous.
