Overview
AR Smart Shopper is a consumer app for the aisle. You point your phone at a product barcode; the app reads it, looks up the product, and shows you what the label actually means — each ingredient explained in everyday words, a verdict on the nutrition, a note on the environmental impact of the packaging and sourcing, and a clear, personalised suggestion on whether to buy it, think about it, or skip it. Alongside that, an AR-style price-comparison panel lays out what different retailers charge, with the cheapest highlighted, so a healthier choice can also be a smarter-value one.
Who it is for
- Everyday shoppers — anyone who wants to understand what a packaged product really contains before buying it.
- Health-conscious buyers — people watching sugar, sodium, fat or additives, or following a vegetarian, vegan or low-sugar preference.
- Shoppers with allergies — those who want a quick flag for allergens they have listed in their preferences.
- Eco-minded buyers — people who factor packaging and sourcing into their choice.
Scanning works without an account. Signing in adds saved preferences, scan history, and personalised guidance.
The four AI outputs
Every full analysis returns four things, each written to be read at a glance in the aisle.
Each analysis carries a disclaimer on screen: this is general guidance to support your own decision, not medical or dietary advice. Always read the actual product label, especially for allergens.
How it works, end to end
Barcode scanning
The scanner runs live in the browser using the device camera, reading standard retail barcodes as you hold the product in frame. When a code is detected the app looks it up; a quick verdict chip (buy / consider / skip) appears first, and a "Full analysis" button opens the complete breakdown. If the camera cannot get a clean read — a curved surface, low light — a manual entry field lets you type the number, and you can add the product name, ingredients and nutrition by hand so it can still be analysed.
AR price comparison
The price panel shows the product's price across the retailers on record as a set of horizontal bars, with the lowest price highlighted so it is obvious at a glance. It is designed to sit inside the full analysis, next to the health guidance, so a shopping decision can weigh both what is in the product and what it costs. Prices are indicative and depend on the data on record; always confirm the current price in store or on the retailer's own page before buying.
Pages & modules
| Page | What it does |
|---|---|
| ASS_Default public | Marketing landing: what the app does, the four AI outputs, free vs premium pricing, and sign-in / register panels, with a "Scan now" call to action that works without an account. |
| ASS_ARScan no login | The live barcode scanner with an AR-style frame and a manual entry fallback. On a read it shows a quick verdict chip and a link to the full analysis. A free-scan counter nudges heavy users towards premium. |
| ASS_ProductDetail no login | The full result for a barcode: health-score ring, ingredient breakdown, nutrition verdict, eco-impact badge, the big buy / consider / skip card, and the AR price comparison — always with the guidance disclaimer. |
| ASS_Dashboard | Post-login home: stat cards (total scans, buy / skip counts, premium status and days left), recent scans and quick actions. |
| ASS_ScanHistory | Your saved scans as cards with product, verdict chip, health score and date, with a search filter and a link back to each full analysis. |
| ASS_UserPreferences | Your dietary preferences (vegetarian, vegan, low-sugar, low-sodium, gluten-free), allergies and eco-priority. These personalise future analyses. |
| ASS_Premium | The free-versus-premium comparison and the upgrade call to action. |
| ASS_Subscription | The premium checkout — a Razorpay payment that activates premium for one month. |
| ASS_Analytics admin | Chart.js dashboards from a single analytics procedure: headline counts, a doughnut of scans by verdict, a line of daily scanning activity, and a top-products table. |
Free vs Premium
- Scan and analyse products
- A limited number of scans each period
- The four AI outputs and price comparison
- Unlimited scans
- Personalised guidance from your preferences
- Saved scan history
Premium is billed monthly through Razorpay; each payment keeps premium active for one month from the payment date.
Privacy & data
- Scanning works anonymously — an anonymous scan is saved without a user, so you can try the app without an account.
- When you sign in, your scans, preferences and allergies are tied to your account so guidance can be personalised, and are visible only to you.
- Analysed products are cached by barcode so repeat lookups are fast and consistent; the cache holds product information, not personal data.
- Records use soft-delete, so history is preserved and data can be recovered.
